The Wills Hall Association’s 2007 London reception was once again a great success. This lavish event is kindly sponsored by our distinguished Patron, Lord Chilver and by Lady Chilver. The Princess Marie Louise Room of the Oxford and Cambridge Club was the magnificent setting for the reception that brought together a wonderful cross section of the generations. Members from every decade of the Hall’s history met in lively conversation over champagne and canapés.
Lord Chilver welcomed his guests and said how important it was that the Association was flourishing. Richard Cross proposed a toast of thanks in response. He said how good it was that this occasion brought together representatives of every decade of the Hall’s life including James Ashton-Bell and Matthew Snelgar, newly elected President and Vice-President of the Junior Common Room. This occasion demonstrated the loyalty that exists towards Wills Hall. The Chairman praised the work of its excellent Warden, Donald Shell. He gave a summary of the Association’s year, including the project to present the Hall with a pipe organ for the Monica Wills Memorial Chapel. Professor Stuart Siddell, the sub-warden, thanked the Association on behalf of the Warden, who was abroad, and gave news of Hall life, including the extensive works afoot this summer.
This popular and enjoyable event has demonstrated that there are many former Wills Hall residents in London and the South East who wish to attend WHA gatherings in London.
